Ukrainians in London express their gratitude to departing British Ambassador

The Association of Ukrainians in Great Britain (AUGB) hosted an audience with HM Ambassador Leigh Turner on April 26th  at their Headquarters in Notting Hill to thank the Ambassador for all his work in Ukraine over the past four years. The Foreign and Commonwealth office has announced that Leigh Turner will now be assigned to another Diplomatic Service appointment . He will be replaced by Mr Simon Smith who will take up his appointment during late summer 2012. Change of Her Majesty’s Ambassador to Ukraine

Mr Simon Smith has been appointed Her Majesty’s Ambassador to Ukraine in succession to Mr Leigh Turner who will be transferring to another Diplomatic Service appointment. Mr Smith will take up his appointment during late summer 2012. Simon Smith studied Modern Languages at Oxford University and joined the FCO in 1986. On Friday, April 13, 2012, the Kule Centre for Ukrainian and Canadian Folklore at the University of Alberta was honoured to have Dr. Michael Mucz as our speaker at the last Folklore Lunch of this academic year. During his presentation entitled "Tommorow is Too Late!" Dr. Mucz shared his research for the book Baba's Kitchen Medicines: Folk Remedies of Ukrainian Settlers in Western Canada. Dr. Nadia Diuk presents a view from the United States on Ukraine’s shift from democracy

The Ukrainian Institute in London hosted a talk by Dr. Nadia Diuk, Vice President at the National Endowment for Democracy in Washington, DC, entitled Ukraine’s Drift from Democracy: a View from the United States. Making Ukrainian Pysanky Easter eggs in London

The Ukrainian Institute will be a hosting a traditional Ukrainian Easter egg painting session on Saturday, April 7th starting from 11.00AM. A pysanka is a Ukrainian Easter egg, decorated using a wax-resist method. The word comes from the verb pysaty, “to write”, as the designs are not painted on, but written with beeswax.
