Markian Shashkevych and Ukrainian national revival in nineteenth century Galicia

We are pleased to invite you to a talk entitled Markian Shashkevych and Ukrainian national revival in Galicia in the 1st half of the nineteenth century, on Monday, March 26th at 7.00PM at the Ukrainian Institute in London.  The talk will be presented by Dr. Oleh Dukh, assistant head of History Department at the Lviv National University and a lecturer at the Ukrainian Catholic University. Dr. Dukh wrote his PhD on Women’s Monasteries in Lviv and Przemysl diocese in XVII-XVIII centuries. November 2011 marked the bicentenary of the birth of Markian Shashkevych. M. The Next meeting of the Ukrainian Literary Club will take place on Saturday, March 24th at 11.00AM at the Ukrainian Institute in London. We are delighted to invite you to an evening of readings of Taras Shevchenko, at 7.00PM on Friday, March 9th, the 198th anniversary of the birth of Ukraine’s greatest poet. The Institute will host an informal candlelit event, where readings will take place of Shevchenko’s original texts and also translations in English and other languages. A number of songs will also be performed by Ukrainian artists living in London. Please come with your Kobzar in hand.
